You know, I discovered something about myself tonight. I think I say offensive things without realizing they are offensive. I think it may be from growing up in South Carolina. :/

I have this new friend. She is so awesome. We have so much in common (she builds websites!). I'm not going to mention any names here because I don't want to out her, but she told me she was gay tonight after I told her I was, and my response to her was this: "You don't look like a lesbian!"

What the HELL, Todd?! How could I not realize that that would come off offensive? She asked me what a lesbian looks like, and it was then that I knew that I had put my foot in my mouth. You know, I realize "You look like a lesbian," is offensive, but I never thought of the opposite like that. I really need to think before I speak.

I apologized to her and told her I meant no offense. She seemed to still want to be my friend afterward and we exchanged numbers, so maybe I'm not as socially awkward as I think I am. Anyway, this is great. I haven't made any friends of my own since I've been here (all of my friends here are Shane's friends), so I'm really excited.

Nanowrimo is going great. I hit 1717 words which is over where you're supposed to be at everyday. I'm still going to try to hit 2,000 before bed. I've seen word counts over three to four thousand already, and there's even people with 10,000 words (What the crap?), so I feel a little behind. 2,000 is still over, though, and as long as I keep this up I should finish before the 30th.
